MSc Applied Social Work Practice Continuous Professional Development

AIMS OF MODULE:

  • To explore the different approaches to leadership and agency context
  • To explore the definitions and inter-relationships between theories and practice of supervision within specific contexts 
  • To develop understanding of the relationship between adopting a new role and responsibilities linked to agency expectations
  • To develop critical understanding of a supervisory relationship with agency employees 
  • To promote a culture of professional curiosity, embracing research within the area of responsibility, encouraging the exploration of different cultures, concepts and ideas.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES:

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the research and theories underpinning leadership through supervision arrangements
  • Demonstrate a critical overview of the key role of the supervisor as mediator between service user(s), practitioner(s), agency and the professional body HCPC
  • Critical evaluation of complex social work practice, providing appropriate challenges, development and supportive opportunities for supervisees
  • Assist others to develop their leadership and supervisory knowledge and skills

ASSESSMENT: CRITICAL OVERVIEW OF A RECORDED SUPERVISION SESSION 4,500 WORDS

Lectures and sessions will be partly interactive, using the creation of scenarios. There will be small groups combined with current leadership and supervisory practice. All assessed work to align with the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Knowledge and Skills Statement(s).

Individual tutorials will be available and formative feedback will be given.    

This module forms part of the MSc Applied Social Work Practice CPD programme.
