MSc Applied Social Work Practice Continuous Professional Development

AIMS OF MODULE:

  • Develop conceptual understanding of social work practice which will enable you to exercise high quality critical judgements in situations of increasing complexity, risk, uncertainty and challenge  
  • Enable you to critically apply social work’s ethical principles and values to guide your professional practice
  • Enable you to critically examine your own social work practice within either children’s and/ or adult’s services
  • Evaluate current legislation, research, theories and advanced scholarship in social work practice

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES:

  • Critical analysis of the context of social work practice
  • Acquire knowledge and approaches towards critical evaluation
  • Evidence-based informed professional practice
  • Use of ethical principles and values
  • Human rights and professional practice
  • Managing complex cases and maintaining professional boundaries
  • Evidence from research about health and social care integration
  • Resilience and the application of emotional intelligence

ASSESSMENT:

ASSESSMENT 1 Analysis of an observation, 1500 words, 30% of module mark.

ASSESSMENT 2 A critical analysis of two incidents from two different cases i.e. involvement with service users 3,500 words, 70% of module mark. Assessed work aligned with the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Knowledge and Skills Statement(s) (KSS). Individual tutorials will be available and formative feedback will be given.

This module forms part of the MSc Applied Social Work Practice CPD programme.
