You use us to find a job, you “react” to the resources we share on Facebook and maybe you even came to our first convention in Manchester a few weeks ago. Bit by bit you’re hearing more about One Stop Social – but how much do you really know about us and what we do?
A few years ago, social worker Matt Hughes thought the name “One Stop Social” had potential; and slowly the wheels started turning and ideas started forming. In July 2016, he started to work on One Stop Social full-time and develop his dream for a central hub of information within the social work and care community. His students and colleagues were facing a fragmented sector, making it difficult to find recruitment opportunities, learn about training days or contact front-line services. The company began as a pipe-dream, a “wouldn’t it be helpful if…” idea and then started snowballing when practitioners realised the value in a ‘one stop shop’.
So, what is it we actually do at One Stop Social? We aim to support social work and care professionals across every stage of their studies and work with the following tools at our disposal:
We have listings from recruiters across the country, advertising vacancies at various levels of the social work or care career ladder. All our job ads are sector-specific and monitored carefully to make sure they’ve active. This makes sure they are relevant for all our registered candidates, who make up our CV Library Database.
It’s the place where you can find social work and care front-line services across the country. Simple as that. You can search for specific topics within the sector, such as addiction recovery services or charities to support parents. There’s a brief description, a link to the website and key contact details for practitioners to use.
We add more books, worksheets and guides all the time, to facilitate the studies or work of those in our sector. These are resources created by third-parties or by our own team, which we host on our website and share across our social media pages.
We believe that social work and care should be recognised as a sector that embraces the modern way of business. This means utilising all the communication tools to the best of their ability, so we offer bespoke communication consultancies to help support organisations in our sector. This has led to us being the communications lead for the Greater Manchester Social Work Academy, read more here.
We want to support care homes in every way we can, so we’re created a subscription model which includes jobs listings, inclusion on our Social Care Directory, access to the CV Database and 25% off selected training courses, among other benefits.
Our ethos is to be for social workers, by social workers. Our core leadership team is formed of professionals from the social work and care sector who have decades of experience. We know what it’s like to work against the constraints of the sector as we’ve experienced it first-hand, so we know what the major restrictions are. We work to tailor One Stop Social around what social workers and care professionals actually need. We’re always open to new suggestions, so if you have any ideas about how we could be doing better, then get in touch!
